Smash Mouth album “Smash Mouth” is one of Smash Mouth album no have song “All Star” which to RetrOgre is commercial mistake. Still, suffer for art, so RetrOgre settle in, listen to 13 tracks that are not “All Star.”

1. “Holiday in My Head”. Look around at sleepy little town. Every day is getaway. Line is thin between fun and sin. Our only care is what to wear. Doesn’t give RetrOgre a lot to work with!
2. “Your Man”. About the singer girlfriend should leave him. Can’t argue! Is about being bad absent boyfriend.
3. “Pacific Coast Party”. Is about a party? A Pacific Coast Party? Only two verses, lots of chorus. Get your ticket, pack your bags.
4. “She Turns Me On”. The ride was rough but she was smooth. Regrets about leaving a girl. Lots of girls? “Now that she’s gone, she turns me on.”
5. “Sister Psychic”. Skateboards and scars. Can you see the future or just predict the weather. About TV psychics I guess. $6.95 for the first minute.
6. “Out of Sight” We ain’t so dumb, just numb. You’re a star now, blinking bright. Drive so fast now.
7. “Force Field”. Todays’ escape consists of a map. A savvy fox, a loyal dog, a sunny cat. Manning my stations, say hello to my force field.
8. “Shoes n Hats” actually has more of a theme – mocking people who care about fashion trend. And I heard them say “Don’t be square” so square we’ll stay.
9. “Hold You High” You’ll be claiming stars now, I”ll be representing clouds.
10. “The In Set” We are the in set. They don’t trip if you’re hip at the velvet rope off the strip. Call me cruel and unkind, but I’m cool and refined like a robot. The pond may be big but it ain’t deep. More imagery here.
11. “Disenchanted” At midnight you can grab your keys and slip into your bulletproof dress. Gotta run before the sun catches up to me.
12. “Keep it Down” – Running with the big dogs, left those puppies on the porch.
13. “I’m a Believer” Best song on the album, a cover of a Monkees song.

Whew! Not a lot to work with, and what there is, is mostly same. But that okay. RetrOgre not need much.

Game is to be… top down maze. Player go around, avoid patrolling baddies. Tempt to make vision cones but let’s go minimal. Also think about make tile color change as you go, but again… want no mechanic more complex than focus of patrol.

So player go around, collect things, anticipate patterns of enemy patrol.

How incorporate album elements? Dat da tricky part. Maybe collect things… you collect stars (“Hold you High”) to power force field (“Force Field”) while avoiding mouth-shaped aliens. Player is a square (“Shoes n Hats”).

RetrOgre think about dat for a bit.

Jam 3 for am inspire by album Smash Mouth “Smash Mouth.” Not best album but is ok.

Mechanical focus: Simple AI patrol behavior. Make entity follow route.

Crunk make game, but not finished. Sleep big problem this week, no time polish like want. Still, show go on. Crunk keep make half-finished game, some day add up to full game (dis Ogre Math, no make sense to no-gres).

Okay, RetrOgre know game. Is based on Wannabe and, if time, 2 become 1.

Player is gun. Can no move, but can tilt. Fire at ships, name Zigs. Must watch out for every Zig!

Dat da basics. If time for to develop, Zigs will merge into bigger ships, ZigaZiga. That’s two Zigs! ZigaZiga can set you up the bomb. If dat happen, den you lose da life. Only got da three lifes!

So mechanics:

• Zig ship, it zig around like dat
• Player cannon
• Player cannon fire
• Zig ship splode
• Zig ships spawn at interval
• Earn da points
• If two zig ships for too long, merge to ZigaZiga.
• ZigaZiga drop da bomb
• Da bomb asplode
• You gets da three lifes
• Bonus life maybe?

Den gotta make dem assets:

• Cannon sprite
• Zig ship
• ZigaZig ship
• Zig Bombs

Do da mechanics tomorrow, mebbe thursday. Assets friday saturday, done by sunday? We see.

New week, new game, new Ogre. Game for make shoot – one hit, one kill. Theme: Spice Girls “Spice.” Not have heard since little ogre! Not big into pop at time, but have friend who was. Remember video say, “ZIG A ZIG AH!” Maybe that make game? Look out for every Zig?

But first, RetrOgre listen to album. RetrOgre not snob! Give all musics chance to be great.

Track one is most famous, Wannabe. High energy song. Much girl power. Slam your body down and wind it all around, zig-a-zig-ah. Video is girls run around, be irreverent fun times like mentos commercial.

Say You’ll Be There is slower love song. Beseech for say title of song! Video is incongruous. Girls doing punchy kicky, throw blades and boomeranges through water-filled glass target in desert. RetrOgre appreciate all dat leather, but does not see connection!

Third track: 2 become 1. On surface, maybe song about math. But is no about math! Song is about doin’ it!

Track four is Love Thing. Spice Girls have no patience for promises of love dat aren’t backed up. And dey have their own dreams to pursue! Girl power dreams!

Last Time Lover is next one. Girls have opinions about flirt, seduction, and kind of lover dey want. Maybe is also about doin’ it? RetrOgre not get subtext.

Mama is six, and it is about how dey love der moms. How sweet! Ogres have moms too, so RetrOgre really identify with dis one.

Track seven, Who Do You Think You Are is about obnoxious famous people. Excess of celebrity culture.

Something Kinda Funny is track 8, and was demo dat got da girls signed. Is funny in good playful way, not suspicious way. Personal freedom and empowerment and such. Gals being pals!

Track nine, Naked, is not about boobs and butts as you might think. No! Is about vulnerability and being open. Get mind out of gutter! Is vulnerability… as strength.

If U Can’t Dance at long last drop metaphor. Is just castigation of mans who can’t dance! Spice Girls say such a man is useless.

So with dat, RetrOgre needs to come up with game. After long thought, gonna make a game where you shoot tings dat zig-a-zig around. Maybe wit boomerangs or spinning blades! Gonna be a simple shooter. Minimal.

Crunk see RetrOgre do prewriting, make good game. Try make good game too, so try prewrite also.

Do basic shooty gallery game. Simple mechanics. Left/right move, spacey bar shoot. Targets move one side to other, shoot fast or dey gone. Far targets move faster, but bigger score, try get good score. Dat’s it! (Ogres think shooty is coward way fight, but some ogres curious. CRUNK ENTICE PLAYERS WITH ESCAPISM!)

Crunk try make easy game, dis time want spend more time make own art, music, beep boop sounds. Not sure how make spicy, but think hard!
